Mihingo Lodge has been operating horseback safaris in Lake Mburo National Park since 2008 and believes that this is an incredibly special way in which to view game. Zebra will often approach you, keen to check out their stripe-less relatives and you have the chance to get a lot closer to many of the slightly more timid animals than you would from a jeep. What's more, without any engine sound and fumes, you will feel very much a part of nature.
The park itself stretches over 260km² of territory, encompassing wetland habitats, acacia woodland and open savannah. It is one of the few reserves in Uganda which is home to Zebras and Impalas. In addition, you can expect to see Eland, Waterbuck, Topi, Buffalo, Warthog, Hippo, Duiker, Bushbuck, Baboons, Crocodiles and if you're lucky, Leopard and Buffalo. A high concentration of bird species have also been recorded in the area.
This safari is one of the lodge's more popular rides, as it takes you onto the 4km long grassy Warukiri range situated in the middle of the park, at the end of which there is a waterhole, which attracts Buffaloes. The views across 9 of the 12 lakes surrounding the park are spectacular and it is here that you will enjoy your packed breakfast.
The lodge currently has seven horses between 14.2 and 16.5 hands, as well as 4 Ethiopian ponies.
